Tim Roth

Timothy Simon Roth was born on 14 May 1961 in Dulwich, London. He trained as a sculptor before acting, then broke through in British television and film with Meantime (1983), Made in Britain, and The Hit (1984). In the early 1990s he moved into American independent cinema. Quentin Tarantino cast him in Reservoir Dogs (1992) as Mr. Orange and in Pulp Fiction (1994), which made his face familiar far beyond Britain. He also appeared in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead and Vincent & Theo.

He received an Academy Award nomination for Rob Roy (1995) and later appeared in Everyone Says I Love You, The Legend of 1900, Planet of the Apes, and The Incredible Hulk. From 2009 to 2011 he starred as Dr. Cal Lightman on the Fox series Lie to Me. He has continued to work in both studio and independent films, including Selma, the western The Hateful Eight, and the series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He also directed The War Zone (1999). The site’s Chinese New Year table puts 1961’s turn on 15 February, so 14 May is Ox/Taurus.
