George Clooney

George Timothy Clooney was born on 6 May 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky. He grew up partly in Augusta, Kentucky, and in the Cincinnati area, where his father Nick Clooney worked in television news. After a short spell at Northern Kentucky University he moved to Los Angeles and spent years in small film and television parts, including a turn on The Facts of Life and the sitcom Roseanne, before being cast as Dr. Doug Ross on ER in 1994. The hospital drama made him widely known and ran through 2009, though he left the regular cast earlier.

He later starred in Out of Sight, the Ocean’s films, Michael Clayton, Up in the Air, and Gravity, and directed Good Night, and Good Luck, The Ides of March, and The Monuments Men. He won an Academy Award for Syriana and another as a producer of Argo. With Grant Heslov he runs Smokehouse Pictures. He has also worked on humanitarian campaigns, including work related to Darfur, and later became a public advocate for press freedom. On this site’s calendar the 1961 Chinese year began on 15 February, so 6 May is Ox/Taurus.
