Eddie Murphy

Edward Regan Murphy was born on 3 April 1961 in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Long Island. He began stand-up as a teenager, joined Saturday Night Live in 1980, and became one of the show’s main players through 1984 with impressions and original characters. His first concert film, Delirious (1983), and the later Raw (1987) recorded that stand-up voice for a wide audience.

On film he starred in 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop and its sequels, Coming to America, The Nutty Professor, and voiced Donkey in the Shrek series. He received an Academy Award nomination for Dreamgirls (2006). He has continued to act and produce, including a later return to Coming to America and work as a stand-up headliner. His early 1980s albums How Could It Be and So Happy sat beside the film work rather than replacing it. The site’s 1961 Chinese New Year of 15 February makes 3 April Ox/Aries.
